"...After returning from South-Africa she started to work on the multitude of images that haunted her, but gradually these started to blend with images generated by her personal surroundings..."

"...Due to the interplay of lines an optical effect is generated that in turns draws the eye of the viewer inward and pushes it outward; rather as if there is a struggle between becoming involved and maintaining one's distance..."
(Riet van der Linden, Opzij, Febr. 05)

"... an acceptance of the existance of different, often conflicting realities as part of the human condition."
(Riet van der Linden, Art in America, april 1998)

and:

"... However still they may stand, these paintings are about movement. Not about the movement of the brush, but about the movement that the spectator makes. I seduce him to make his own 'zap', his own journey through the images. I therefore set out various routings..."
(Marjan Verkerk, Some Notions, march 2000)

This is still my Leitmotiv, although outwardly the work has become more tranquil and quiet. There is less noise but the inherent tension has increased. A naked tightness prevails.
Restlessly, the eye follows the plotted trajectory, attempting to find a way out.
The horizon seems to offer a means of escape. But even the horizon has been deliberately constructed.
More and more, the art of composing is becoming essential to my work. Deftly I arrange simple components, fully aware of what constitutes 'beauty' in the eye of the beholder.
Has the painter become an accesory to manipulation?
